My heart breaks whenever Kimberly asks me, “Why does my head hurt?” As I watch her rub her forehead and temples. With her short-term memory gone, she would not remember what I would say to her. Those are the areas where the degeneration is going on. I give her a couple of pain pills to relieve the pain. This is why it is so important to have care companions in place to keep her busy to help distract her from the pain she is feeling, which will only get worse.
I came across this video, 2-Minute Neuroscience: Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), which does an excellent job of explaining what is going on with Kimberly’s brain. This is one disease that has no mercy!
